Folks, we had an awesome Yoga for Foodies Pizza Party celebration last friday. The class was awesome. The Pizza from Robertas was awesome and so was the salad and chocolate dipped apricots made by the studio instructor.
Now this friday, March 2, 2012 (woo -hoo spring is almost here) we will be eating out at our local favorite, NewTown, which makes some of the best hummus, falafel and humouli sandwiches!
As before the schedule and details remain the same.
So the plan for the evening
1. Get to Makara Studio by 6.45 pm. Note: the class starts at 7 pm but we recommend getting there...

Yoga for Foodies is a unique and fun way to unwind on a Friday evening and rejuvenate your body and mind through awesome Yoga and delicious food in the company of other like minded people. Organized every friday evening in New York City, Yoga for Foodies includes 60-75 mins of Yoga class at a participating studio that includes several poses to wash to relieve the stress and give the body some much needed stretching and to whet your appetite. Update: Feb 25, 2012. Thanks all for coming and making the Fourth Yoga for Foodies such a great evening. It truly fell like a small family - doing yoga and then sitting and eating, chatting and soaking up the energy in the space. Such a blessing! Keep coming, keep spreading the goodness to your friends and family.
We had an awesome class to get the digestive juices flowing - not kidding but my stomach was growling after the class.
Dinner consisted of beetroot salad and a kale salad with raisins and sweet potato. Thanks to Hannah Harpole, Makara Studio Co-founder and the Yoga instructor....

Folks, we are looking forward to our third straight weekly Yoga for Foodies this coming fri, Feb 17th.
The basic idea as before is simple - we go out every friday evening to do some yoga to get a feel of what it is (if you have never done it) and (for all) to burn off all the toxins accumulated from the week and to relieve the stress and give the body some much needed stretching. And after a good class of yoga, to treat ourselves to a hearty dinner and chat with friends in a local restaurant.

1. Get to Makara Studio by 6.45 pm. Note: the class starts at 7 pm but we recommend...

We had a great time at the second "Yoga for Foodies" with an awesome fundamentals and basics class at Makara Studio. The class focused on poses to open your heart and strengthening the code abdominal area. And we were back in to our local favorite, new Town for some awesome hummus and sandwiches.
Stay tuned - we will be doing the third Yoga for Foodies on Feb 17th and this time we plan to check out a mexican restaurant
Okay folks, we are really looking forward to the second "Yoga for Foodies" meetup. We had a great turn out at the inaugural meetup last friday....

We are really excited with the enthusiasm and support for our Yoga for Foodies initiative this friday at the Makara Studio. The studio was almost full to capacity by 7pm and we kicked off with a great class with the Makara studio founder, Hannah, to get the digestive juices flowing (once, again a big shout out to the studio for supporting this initiative).
And after a 75 minute class, the appetite was primed up for some local williamsburg food. And since we were a fairly large group, we finally ended up at NewTown - an awesome vegan hummus and pita place (it was formerly called...

We are super excited to kick off with the first "Yoga for foodies" initiative. The basic idea is simple - we go out every friday evening to do some yoga to burn off all the toxins accumulated from the week and to relieve the stress and give the body some much needed stretching (so you can be ready for a big weekend). And after a good class of yoga, to treat ourselves to a hearty dinner and chat with friends in a local restaurant.
This initiative, like our Studio Initiative, and pretty much anything we are doing, is part of our mission to get a million people to do Yoga in the next 5 yrs.

Just got this from the Folks at Makara Studio - they sent this out after full one week of classes. Love their thought behind the studio and the phrase "Studio with a Conscience" - Woo hoo! Well said. Yes, explore your conscious mind through Yoga and become more conscientious.
I was at the Open House of the studio and its first yoga class - i must say the place has a vibe and energy that give solace to the heart and mind. And the colors and aesthetic bring an element of India right in the space.
If you have not been to the Studio yet, then check it out. Through our partnership with Makara,...

So after the awesome opening night and the high level of turnout and enthusiasm in the local community about the opening of Makara Studio, i was super excited to have the first day of classes at Makara starting with a Yoga class at 9.30 am. And even mother nature had awesome plans - to celebrate the first class, she came down with inches of fresh snow - the first of the season for us new york city dwellers. The freshness in the air just made it totally worth heading in the cold across the williamsburg bridge (the L train got suspended the last minute) and chugging it along to the studio. The reward...

It is incredible to see how in just a matter of 8-10 weeks, a vision becomes a reality through sweat, dedication and continued perseverance. It was around late October, that we first came to know about the effort to start Makara Studio where once stood a barber Shop (see image below - thats what Google Maps shows if you search for 164 Montrose Ave, New York). And we feel privileged to have helped in whatever small way with the studio (sticking broken glass pieces to give the toilet an artistic ceiling) and with sponsoring the reclaimed wooden floor (which feels awesome and makes one want to remain...
